You're probably familiar with the concept of the king of the hill game mode. Made popular by military members, this game mode is a competition to capture and hold a designated point on a map for as long as possible. Akin to other popular games like League of Legends and DOTA2, if your team captures and holds the point for 10 minutes, you win! But what happens when there's no Arma 3 server available that runs such a map? Get your own Arma 3 server running in seconds with these easy steps!
* Create an ArmA3server. cfg file within the server root directory. The .cfg file should look like this: seta maxplayers "30"; // Maximum number of players allowed on the server seta disableVoN "1"; // Disable Voice over Net. This will prevent player from being able to talk to each other over the headsets.
* Create a Missions folder within the server root directory. Within that folder, create a file named campaign. dat. This file will contain the list of missions to be played on the server, as well as other settings such as weather and time of day.
* Create a Server.cfg within the server root directory. The .cfg file should look like this: seta password "" // Password for joining and spectating servers seta maxPing "0" // Kick players with high ping (ping > 100 ms). 0 is disabled (default) seta description "King Of The Hill v1"; // Change the description as you see fit
* Create a MapList.txt within the Missions folder. The contents of the file should look like this: Campaign01;KingOfTheHill;KingOfTheHill;01;01;01;01;01 Campaign01;;KingOfTheHill;;KOTH;;01;;01;;01;;01
* Create an empty directory named mods within the server root directory. This will act as a staging area for any future mission or map packs you wish to install. If you want to run missions or other game types, copy their zip files into this directory.
* Now launch the server! Make sure you're using Admin 1 (Administration > Settings > Admin 1) before you proceed. Firing up an Arma 3 server is a cinch. Here are the steps you'll need to follow to get it running.
* Find the A3server executable under your Arma 3 installation directory. It should look something like this: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\Arma 3 Server\\A3SERVER * Run the A3server executable with Admin 1 privileges. This will open up a terminal window automatically. Don't worry! This is normal behavior for most server software on Linux-based operating systems, and it helps prevent non-admin users from tampering with your server settings.
* Create an ArmA3server.
